A New Hand Touches The Beacon
Few things are as intimidating to a writer as a blank page; this goes doubly so when you're a newly independent freelancer, trying to figure out just how to market yourself in order to survive but also not sell out.
Last year, I thought I'd gotten a lucky break when I was picked up to write for Screen Rant's now-defunct Fantasy vertical – after all, who doesn't want to kick their career into high gear by getting your name on one of the most highly-trafficked culture aggregators on the Internet? Eight months later, though, the novelty had well and truly worn off for reasons not worth going into here. Suffice it to say, I've learned a fair amount, including that I have an allergic reaction to the idea of quotas.
Going forward, this blog will likely be a bit of a mess as I figure out the vibe of the whole thing (are blogs even cool? I haven't had one since my LiveJournal Days). But, intrepid readers, I can say that I have some neat shit in the pipeline, and to expect some teasers here and on my BlueSky until the real thing goes live on August 1st!
